The Underpants of Science

The Underpants of Science Museum opens on March 31st, 2006 in the lobby of UT-Austin's Physics-Math-Astronomy building. This display of entirely authentic undergarments from the great figures of Math and Science is intended to honor those who have illuminated our understanding of the universe, and has nothing to do with Saturday's date.

Welcome to the Underpants of Science Museum

Welcome, everyone, to the Underpants of Science Museum.

The Underpants of Science Museum is a short-term installation situated in the lobby of the Physics-Math-Astronomy building (RL Moore Hall) at the University of Texas, Austin. This display of entirely authentic undergarments from many great figures of Math and Science is intended to honor those who have illuminated our understanding of the universe, and has nothing to do with Saturday's date.

The anonymous curators of this exhibit hope that the university appreciates the harmless nature of this gallery and our intention to amuse and educate. We expect that, if the gallery is left unmolested, the curators will arrange for its removal sometime before Tuesday April 4th.

I'm so pissed that I missed this! I had a meeting in WCH, and didn't get back to RLM until it was already gone.

Well, better luck next time -- I think the concept is brilliant. We need more art in RLM!

I hope the exhibit can return by No Pants Day.
If you are on facebook, there's now a group, "Bring Back the Underpants of Science Museum" (hope you don't mind.)

If you ask around among the older grad students in the physics dept. you'll find people who know who did this...

I loved the exhibit. I learned so much about scientists and their work. All the 5th floor staff seems pretty upset it was busted. I was going to suggest putting it up in the coaching table area because I have a sense of humor but apparently not everyone does.

The number of physics faculty members who have a sense of humor and would be in RLM Hall between 6 and 8 AM is identically zero.

This should not prevent the exhibit from going back up. We need this kind of insight into the secret history of physical science and mathematics. Yea, verily.
